What's the point of the ratings? Is there some kind of handicap?

The reason I'm asking is that a team of 2 900+ rated players would lay absolute waste to me (used to be 875, playing more like 800 now) and anyone who'd be willing to team up with me.

It is way to handicap the teams. That way two 1000 rated pros can't team up and run the field basically. It is supposed to make it more like pro-am teams.

So is there any actual handicapping of scores, or is just having the limit supposed to be the handicap?

Two 950s can still be on a team, the equivalent of which is pain and suffering for me.
