Don't know if it really matters, but some people may want to have the 12/30 round scheduled at Buffalo Trace at Seviren Lang if we're having the Resolution Bowl again (1/1).

How about those who wanna get in a practice round for the Resolution Bowl at S.L. can do so after a winter league round at Buffalo.

If you think you can play at 2:00 in Palmyra, drive to Edwardsville and get in a 2nd round before you run out of daylight at the end of December knock yourself out.

Mike_D
12-01-2012, 06:46 PM
OR for those that would like a practice round at S.L. go do so in the morning & then come out to leagues.

I'm not changing the location & it's ok if people rather play S.L. for practice instead of Leagues at Buffalo Dec 30th

There is limited parking at Jim's place. Please park across the street at Tom Wallace Park or next door at the Jefferson Memorial Forest

I showed up 2 hours early to shovel off all the pads.

Yet ANOTHER NO SHOW on a Singles league day & just also happens to be another no show in Indiana.

No matter what i have to show up at each course, take time away from my family, gas & mileage on the car. I honestly can not put in the time & effort if no ones going to show up.

What to do ?
Why is no one coming out to play ?

I need some answers to decide to either spot singles play & make all doubles or just stop winter leagues all together.

NEXT week is doubles at I.Q. PENDING

It's a holiday weekend, not everyone wants to play in snow, final day of the NFL regular season with several games being played that affect the playoffs...I live in Indiana, but I couldn't make it because we were having a party for my daughter, who just graduated from college. It's also two days before a tournament and I didn't want to listen to the crap I'd take if I tried to play today and then Tuesday as well.

Buffalo is also a bit of a haul from Louisville aka where most disc golfers live. Also looking for discs in the snow kind of sucks.

This sucks in a lot of ways.

Buffalo is just a little to far to be
included in LDGC leagues. I love the place -
actually one of my favorites but it's 45 minutes
from my house.

I hope you don't throw in the towel. Thanks for all
that you are doing.

Mike_D
12-30-2012, 08:36 PM
OK i'm loving the feedback. It's a huge help in understanding things. I understand everyone has a life outside of disc golf as well.

This season of winter leagues i did cut back on the courses that are far out from last season. Making for a more local schedule.
Like NO Radcliff, Muldraugh. Less Buffalo & less Fun farm.

So next season notes: NO Buffalo, Fun Farm & i guess no Otter Creek ? Works for me. Less gas & risk of driving in bad weather.

I'd hate to see Buffalo scratched from the lineup. With the planned expansion possibly happening next year the course is going to go from good to better and if Hayswood Nature Reserve ever happens then Southern Indiana has the potential of having 3 solid courses with 2 of them being in Harrison County.

I'd love to show up at leagues every week but for me scheduling around the family is the problem...not the distance to a course, which is why I've only made two SGs so far this year. I planned ahead for this week.....that's why I was able to be there today and even though my feet got cold and my hand warmer quit half-way through the round I still had fun.

One suggestion, if the weather plus the distance is why 3 people showed up today then how about putting Buffalo more towards the beginning and end of the schedule. You'd have a better chance of having favorable weather which may improve attendance.

Mike,

Sorry for the no show. As you know Jim, Shawn and I consider Buffalo our home course and do everything we can to support the course and improve the course. We do appreciate your efforts by running a league event.

As far as reasons go; Jim was out of town, Shawn has been under the weather and I was busy with family.

Keep up the good work.

Due to the construction starting Feb 1st till mid summer at C.V. park those dates for SNOW GLOBE winter leagues will play at a different course.

Feb 17th C.V. D
Mar 10th C.V. S

What course would you like to play ?

1. Muldraugh
2. Radcliff
3. Meade Olen Brandenburg

Pick 1 & i will use the top 2 or if a huge vote for 1 we will just hit up the same course for both dates.

Adam
01-25-2013, 05:05 PM
I would vote for Iroquois or Seviren because they might get a better turnout. But you do what you want.

Maybe we'll find out more about the construction at the meeting, depending on where they start it might on affect parking at the course immediately.

Justin
01-25-2013, 07:27 PM
I would actually agree with Adam. I am much more likely to come if it is at IQ of SL. Even though SL is a little further, it is much more fun to play too. So SL is my vote if this is taken into consideration.

illyB
01-25-2013, 09:52 PM
Do u guys think the course will be totally closed during construction? I'm hoping not but maybe y'all know something I don't ?

Mike_D
01-25-2013, 10:15 PM
I don't think the course will be closed. Some holes might holes might be close to construction spots. The parking will be. They are asking disc golfers to park all the way up top by the play ground or farther back on C.V. park drive to the right when coming in the west entrance of the park. That's like walking half the course there & back to play a round.

I get what you guys are saying about a more local & fun course to play.

S.L. will work for the March 10th date

BUT not at all for the Feb 17th date that would have us playing 2 weeks in a row at the same course.

Mike d...you might want to correct the advertised schedule at CV...you do realize construction has yet to begin, all that has been done is a few silt fences have been installed

Mike_D
02-13-2013, 09:19 PM
My main concern is parking. If the disc golf course lot is closed then i would rather play Muldraugh.
IF the lot construction hasn't started by this weekend then i'm down for doubles at C.V..

ALL IN FAVOR to play C.V. ?

The_Shark
02-13-2013, 11:39 PM
I can help keep you informed on this as I am up there daily or every other day. The silt fences do not come into play unless your throw never gets above 2ft from the ground on holes 1,2, and 12, they can be a help keeping disc inbounds on hole 18. Tuesday night went great with no issues.

Mike_D
02-14-2013, 08:51 AM
So no parking issues just yet ?

martin
02-14-2013, 09:53 AM
havent heard of any...could still be another month or so, we are waiting on the parks department to let us know the contractors schedule

even if the horseshoe lot closes, the parks department will let us park along the main road right next to the course (as long as they are doing construction there as well at the same time)

Since i'm the winter league director i say any time AMs are teamed up 1 mulligan per hole per player is allowed.

As a lifelong Am, I hate the idea of giving Ams mulligans.
It's random draw, right? Guess what, it happens. Sometimes you get paired up in less than desirable teams.
If a player wants to win, get better. Don't alienate your pro players to make everything more "fair".

I also vote that if you sign up for am, prizes are paid in plastic.

Mike_D

But it's ok for an odd AM out to get 2 mulligans per hole ? = average of 90 shots per course

36 is small when a reg PRO /AM team gets the average of 108 shots per course

The way i see it is the AMs come out to league doubles cause they know they are getting paired up with a PRO. If the sign ups are way off like this last Sunday 4 pro & 7 AMs. an all AM teams is at a little disadvantage. YES we all need to step up our game but that can be done when $ isn't paid to play.

How about 1 mulligan per hole, per AM / AM team ?

Yes, as an Am you have two mulligans per hole, as a pro you get one per hole.

This is a valid point. The difficult part about making a rule is a mulligan for an Am/Am team might be great to even things out at a course like CV, SL or Freeman. But what about when it's at a shorter course like Otter, Radcliff, or maybe even Muldraugh and Iroquois. Or is it still fair and evening things out or is it over compensating since nearly every the hole is reachable for a deuce?

I also vote that if you sign up for am, prizes are paid in plastic.
We were able to do this some at leagues last year, we hope to do it more in the future.

Mike_D

Them courses are easier BUT nothing changes for the pro / am team. they would still get a 2nd chance every throw. So why should anything change for the AM / AM team or the odd player out ?

what about one mulligan per AM team only on drives

Mike_D
02-20-2013, 06:59 PM
All i know is the amount of mulligans given to the odd player out or AM / AM team has been an on going concern since last years winter leagues.

Something has to be done. I'm shocked to here " pros " saying that's to many mulligans & at the same time telling AMs to step up their game.

How about i give the Am / AM team 1 mulligan per hole & the odd player out gets 2 mulligans per hole & the " pros " step up their game while we AMs learn & enjoy playing while being stuck in our situation.

illyB
02-20-2013, 07:19 PM
Mulligans are lame, plain and simple. Not sure why you are shocked to hear that. Mulligans take away from the integrity of the game and makes for slower play. They also cause someone to lose focus on their current shot, knowing they have a mulligan to throw next. Maybe instead of worrying about this so much you go outside and putt or go to a field and throw some practice shots.

If you decide to implement your idea, I'm sure you will see even less pros playing leagues. Sometimes the best way to learn something is to get beat, knowing you have to do better next time to save some face.

This is a lose lose topic. Mike I see where your coming from being a L.D. and wanting to make things fair, but in reality no matter what decision you make on this, not everyone will be happy nor agree. You must do what you think is best. At CV I do 1 mully for Pro's and 2 for Ams plus shorts when needed and will even allow the AM a 3rd on 16. But since the Winter travels, make your decision on the course for the day.

As blind random draw is not done here at leagues (like otter, everyone in the same pool) I suggest instead of an a pool and a b pool - you run a, b, and c pools

A - top players
C - newest and lowest players
B - everyone in between

Then
A players team up with C players
B players team up with B players
On the odd side you may end up with a a/b team or a b/c team

Mulligans are fine during doubles for an am playing alone as they need a partners shots

2 ams together shouldn't get mulligans...

As some of the guys stated above....two ams should learn to play to their strengths maybe it means more laying up, playing smart...get par....sure its not quite as exciting but its part of the challenge of golf

I think.we should go back to pros paid cash and ams paid plastic...this gives an incentive for players to move from the b pool to the a pool

Martin has a good point here. Play smart to get better scores and pros cash/ams plastic.

IMO if you come to leagues with the idea that you must leave with a prize, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. On the other hand, if you come out to enjoy the day, the game and hanging with some friends. You will enjoy the experience much more. Allow me to use myself as an example. I don't consider myself a pro or an am, but somewhere between. I like to play against the pros, but have seldom cashed, but my goal is to cash more often. Try looking at this from the pros perspective. If a pro has a solid partner, they have a better chance of winning. Its not always how good the pro is. Its how good the team is.

Yeah, the gatehouse is closed until about April or May, so you can drive right in without having to pay.
Not a lot of people know about the parking lot outside the fence on the back side of the park (next to the softball field,) but there is one there and you can park there and walk in for free. You then have a pretty good walk to get to the course, but like he said, you can start back on 6. When the new holes get put in you'll be able to park there and start on one of them and it won't be much more of a walk than probably 300 or 400 feet. It may also be something to keep in mind if you plan on being one of the people helping to work on the new holes when that gets started.
