It's unfortunate that my city is going to be blown up by a flying Roc on June 25 & 26.

I was hoping it would be a Whippet.

TommyB

Could not find a good whippet photo to use and I will get one in Louisville this weekend and I can talk to the hotel I stand at when I moved here for a discount!

Is that how they cleared out the land to make room for the new downtown arena?

Adam you are the go to man for this board with Martin so please help get the word out. The open only had 76 people last year and that seems crazy since it's a great place to play and has some great people to play with. I know once I move back to Louisville I will still take weekend runs back to Evansville to play. I wish we could bring Louisville and Evansville more together but 2 hours is far for a lot of people and I understand that. Thanks guys and I'm trying to do the LDGC right over here!

I feel the same way. Plus it's good for the sport if clubs build better relations with their regional neighbors.

If you can send me a high resolution version of the flyer I'll get some printed and up at the local courses. HOpefully we can get a couple cars full of people from the area out there. Splitting gas and hotel makes a tournament like this pretty cheap. And if there are any places to camp near by that would be good information to post here also.

As far as the hotel is concerned, I believe the back of your PDGA card lists hotels that give a discount to members.

I still want to play, but I'm not sure if I'll be staying the night down there or not.

One of the guys riding down with me has some family that owns a hotel chain. Hopefully, we are getting a discount on a room through him. If not, then my good ole PDGA membership card will provide the discount! Let me know, Marcus, if you want to ride along with us.

Turoni's is great if you like delicious food and outstanding beer.

Johnny ill take you where good pizza is. Since I am from new york and know pizza.

I don't see the fascination with New York pizza. Put some toppings on there, then we'll talk. I didn't get this fat eating a flimsy slice of tomato sauce on filo dough.

TommyB
05-19-2011, 11:49 PM
Have you been to New York Marcus and what have toppings but plan pizza is the best because you can taste how could it is without the mask of toppings.

MarcusGresham
05-20-2011, 08:31 AM
The toppings are why I eat the pizza (and I want meat on my pizza, not that new-age veggie crap.) The crust is really only there to keep the sauce off my fingers when I pick it up. I've never been to New York, but I have been to Chicago, and I ate at Geno's East when I was there.

jobwilson82
05-20-2011, 08:42 AM
Turoni's Buffalo Chicken pizza. That's the ticket.

Being married to a vegetarian, I have learned the value of a good old fashioned cheese pizza. I don't eat pork or beef either, so my options are limited. We have Mr. B's here in Henderson, and we get their pan with Pesto sauce and red peppers. Om nom nom, that is some gooood pie.

I ate at Turoni's a while back and it was pretty darn good. I would strongly suggest it to those playing in the open.

And I pitty the fool who hasn't stopped at the New Albanian Brewing Company for their deep dish pizza. It's not quite a thick as Gino's in Chicago but it is some of the best pizza I've ever eaten.

Now that's what I'm talking about! A big ole slice of thick as hell deep dish pizza!!!

I've lived in NY, ate the pizza, its good, but you just can't beat a good Chicago style slice of pie loaded up with tons of meats and cheeses and veggies!

05-20-2011, 11:38 AM
I don't know much about Chicago or New York pizza, but I do know that for me, it has to have bacon, Jalepeno's, and anchovies. What a flavor combo. But if NY pizza is just a starch with tomato sauce and cheese, I'll take lasagna! By the way, aren't we supposed to be talking about the Evansville Open here? lol. There was a place in Eville that we used to goto when I lived there that had the best Strombolis anywhere, I just can't remember the name of the place.

TommyB

Festis - It's Pizza King and they are not real Stromboli's but still good.

Job - What about Una's?

Johnny - Where in NY because upstate does not count!

Marcus - Geno's East is awesome Pizza but Chi pizza and NY pizza are no way the same. I think you can love both since they are so off from each other.

So who's coming for sure and we all need to meet up and have a party somewhere. I know Justin will be at my place and Job is a party monster! O!

JohnnyNoPants
05-20-2011, 12:09 PM
I was stationed at Ft. Drum, WAAAYYYY upstate, but traveled to NYC 2-3 times a year. I now have a car full (4 of us) coming down for the EVO. We will definitely be looking for some fun to get into, haha! It will be myself, Brian Lacefield (My neighbor and just joined LDGC at leagues last night), Brian "Nasty" Sanford (Also my neighbor, Joined LDGC last night at leagues), and Tommy Glass (My brother-in-law, overall newb to DG but just as hooked as I am). We are STOKED!!!

Anyone have any recommendations for a hotel close to the courses, that also offers a discount for DGers?

BTW, upstate NY pizza is not the same as NYC pizza!

TommyB
05-20-2011, 12:21 PM
Johnny you will have to keep your pants on the whole time while you are here because you can't play Disc golf in jail...lol!
I working on a hotel and will know next week because when I moved here I stayed there for 2 weeks and had a good time for the price.
And thanks for making it clear upstate and NYC ain't the same! I think we should call upstate CT or CAN!

We found out last week that Evansville's nonprofit Parks Foundation will not be able to provide funding for our new course going in at the State Hospital.
We are going to start some aggressive fundraising with hopes of having the holes cleared, signs up and baskets in the ground before end of 2011. Tee pads will hopefully come soon afterwards.
If you are coming for the Open, bring some extra bucks. We are going to run a half pot/raffle with lots of giveaways!

Can't wait to see you guys! It's going to be a big time.
