Sites' positions in Google search results are determined based on a number of factors designed to provide end-users with helpful, accurate search results. These factors are explained in more detail at http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html
In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages. For more information about improving your site's visibility in the Google search results, we recommend reviewing our Webmaster Guidelines. They outline core concepts for maintaining a Google-friendly website.
i also googled your answer, Nick can probably elaborate further

But seriously...do you mean the actual search results or the way Google tries to suggest related searches for you as you type?

I'm not really good at breaking down how google does things if I was I would be a millionaire now. But I can explain what I know or what I heard, so here it is. Google basically takes in count a lot of different factors one thing is back links of the site and the quality of it. Another thing is the terms that is used on the site and whatever else site that is linked to it. So basically if there a lot of references to disc golf on this site, and then on the other site linked to disc golf google takes that in to count. Then there are many other things that count towards it as well and I'm not going to seat here and bore ya with it. But all I know is that nobody really knows how it works. Some people do better then others but they change how things work like everyday.

But now, google uses what site your frequent the most and places them on the front page from them terms. So that may be way Louisville Disc Golf is on there. I checked on my phone and my desktop and nothing showed up for LDGC. Also another thing before I'm done different networks and things show different stuff on google.. So that's another thing into how does google work?

I'm fairly familiar with SEO (search engine optimization) because of my job and Nick is correct. When I Googled disc golf this web site was on the 8th page. Interestingly enough, the teaser text Google showed was something I wrote describing the Rollers video:
Louisville Disc Golf Club (http://louisvillediscgolf.com/)

World champion Dave Greenwell and Daniel Ledford give instruction on how to throw many types of rollers in disc golf. This video was taken at a disc golf...

Yes, linking to other pages and having them link to you is important, but that shows you how important verbiage is. One thing I've been thinking about for a while now is writing some copy to go on the the home page of the web site that will help our Google ranking. But there are lots of things I would like to do if I had more time...
