Local Disc Golfer, Troy Benham’s (#4131) wife (Maria) was in a motorcycle accident Sunday October 12th. She was going around a sharp curve on 1238 when a truck pulling a trailer swerved into her lane. The truck and the trailer that was in tow struck Maria and her motorcycle and the impact nearly severed Maria’s leg. She was able to maintain control of her bike after the impact and bring it to a stop before she laid it down on the side of the road. Her ability to keep the bike upright saved her from sustaining even greater injuries than she did.

The unfortunate news is that Maria lost a lot of blood and the trauma was so sever to her leg that they had to amputate it from about four to six inches above the knee. As bleak as all this sounds the family has chosen to remain grateful that the injuries she sustained did not cost her life. We are encouraging the family to NOT morn the loss of her leg but to celebrate the fact that she is alive and we are blessed to be able to spend the days to come with her.

This was a hit and run so they’re being forced to take care of the bill on their own. She is still currently recovering in the hospital and we all know how expensive extended stays in a hospital can be. This benefit will be held to help aid them in the bills that they will incur from this tragedy.

$10 from every entry fee will be given to Troy and Maria!!!

So come on out for another chance to boost your PDGA rating and to support a GREAT cause!

Count me in! Anything to help them out in these rough times!!

And if you need any help with staff for the tournament I would me more than glad to offer a hand!

By the way, and I can only speak for myself and not others, but why not give them everything except the sanctioning fee's. I would gladly play for a rating only. As a matter of fact if i place take whatever I would recieve in plastic and give them the money for that if that is possible. I'm only coming for the sake of Maria and Troy.

Player's could choose to donate their prizes back to the family however that is COMPLETELY up to each player. That's a VERY kind suggestion.

We've got some AWESOME CTP prizes for this event! This is going to be a fun time for a good cause.

i look forward to playing in my first tourney see the shoulder went out, but i might have to take a dnf before it is over. however, that does not bother me when it is for a good cause. i just hope i make past the first hole without having to drop out.

it was fun but miserable weather. thanks guys for getting my bag back to me. i guess i had a case of the dumb-butt as i left.

11-15-2008, 07:13 PM
I'm glad you got it back! I seen it setting there as I was packing stuff up. It was almost lost forever!

man o man. I guess you have to "pay your dues" when moving up in divisions but it seemed I couldn't put anything together. Seemingly good drives would consistently hit the dreaded "sleeper tree or branch." :bang:
I guess wet tee pads and wet discs were a bad combination for me today. Had a great time though, I guess that's all that matters in the end. Had great groups both rounds and I learned some things too! (but I do hope the round ratings go up a little after the update :Please: ). Thanks for putting this together Jeremy, it feels good to help others in their time of need. That's really cool that that company in Atlanta is matching whatever we raised from this tourney and the fall disc open.
A big shout out to Martin for his first cash in the open. Congrats man :bravo: :bravo:

well i did better than i thought i would. thank you jeremy. i just don't think my shoulder was ready yet. it hurts pretty bad right now. i don't think i'll be throwing for a while longer now. but hey, it was for a good cause. daisy actually liked the mirror, but she said it goes on the wall. bummer. and of course i had great time, too.

I COMPLETELY understand! Two STUPID holes cost me the win yesterday. I have to learn how to finish a good round. :bang:
