I somehow found this info about potential development of a disc golf video game. Specifically for Nintendo's Wii system. I don't have a Wii, but hear they are a blast to play, young or old, and contimue to be in demand. Would be GREAT exposure.

Children and those young at heart could be playing a different sport next year on their Nintendo Wii video game console - one that has a direct connection to Columbia County - disc golf.

"I've been contacted by two different (software) companies who are both interested in making disc golf games for the Wii," said Brian Graham, an Augusta resident and the executive director of the Professional Disc Golf Association, which is managing a new International Disc Golf Center at Wildwood Park in Appling.

The Wii is an interactive video game console that allows play with arm movements using a handheld controller. Disc golf, meanwhile, has rules similar to golf but involves using a flying disc instead of a golf ball and clubs.

Mr. Graham said he was approached recently about two game ideas: one that would focus on some of the top players of the game, another that would be a partnership with the PDGA "and may possibly even take one of the courses out here at the IDGC (at Wildwood) and make that a digital course that you can play."

Development of such games, he said, is in the early stages, "but they've started the communication on it."

One of the software companies is Autonomous Productions, based in Redwood City, Calif. Shayne Guiliano, the studio director for Autonomous, said there do not seem to be any major obstacles keeping his company from developing a disc golf game for the Wii.

"Our tentative plans are to release a game sometime middle or late next year," he said. "... The Wii is obviously a great platform ... and we just think it's perfectly suited for what we want to do for a disc golf game."
Mr. Guiliano said the game most likely will be downloadable at a cost of about $10 to $15 through a new Wii service called Wii Ware.

"We're looking at re-creating some of the famous courses, working with Brian (Graham) and that organization to make sure that the game is authentic, and kind of take people through the steps of becoming a professional disc golfer," he said.

Mr. Graham says such interest in disc golf says a lot about the game's growing popularity.

Yeah, it's suposed to be released later this year. It would be AMAZING if they made it of the same calibur as the Tiger Woods games.

I sold my Wii right before Christmas. I was tired of standing up to play a game. Every game I had required me to stand to play it. It was fun at first but I have played games for 25 years to relax and standing for 3-4 hours isn't relaxing even if you are playing a game. If the game is close to the real thing it sounds like fun.

Watch out big arm players, those remotes come out of your hand fast and the tv is less forgiving than a tree. :D Especially a plasma. $15 disc vs. $2000 tv. yikes.

i follow you jason - with the standing during the games -but i love it

you can bowl, play tennis, golf, shoot folks, and such from your seat though - just takes a bit from the realism

oh yeah if some disc golfin shows for the wii, gonna take care of all those cold, muddy, rainy, just don't want to spend the gas money days

have to admit have a feeling this first games gonna dissapoint golfers, but looking forward anyhow, wii is built perfect for this game

the "wii ware" downloads for the wii i don't think are available entirely yet, so hard to compare it to much, but if the PDGA is at all involved maybe theres a chance it will be a tad better

but the controller should understand speed, snap, and angle, gonna be sweet

This is very interesting. I was speaking with Roady about this earlier this day. And wa-la here it is on the site. I have a Wii and its awesome. I can only think a discgolf program. COOL!!!

I wonder if they will include a smoke-hole or two. If they do, heh heh heh, will there be an adjusted player proformance alteration, heh heh heh...

Never-the-less; looking forward to this game...

Has anyone played the disc golf game that is part of the pack of, I think, beach games?

Yes, I played the version on the beach game pack. It was good graphics and fun. The controls were a bit different to get figured out. But the best disc golf game I have played.
